Varian Alice Lee was born on October 16, 1903, in Los Angeles, California.

At that time, her father, Henry Lee, was 31 and her mother, Annie Laurie Benjamin, was 33. Varian married Harold Frank Hendryx on February 25, 1925, in Portland Oregon. They were the parents of two daughters, Marie and Haroldine, and a son, Charles. Varian lived in Portland, Oregon, and later moved to Cannon Beach, Oregon, in 1949.  She died on January 10, 1996, at the age of 92, and was buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield, California.
